5 Important Reasons that a Christian should NEVER Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day

As a person coming from an Asian country, I am not too familiar with Saint Patrick Day. However, based on what I know and read, I can surely give you five reasons a Christian should not celebrate this holiday.

1. Saint Patrick’s Day is associated with much drunkenness and revelry.

The Bible teaches us to stay away from such things.

“Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor DRUNKARDS, nor REVILERS, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God” (I Corinthians 6:9).

2. Saint Patrick’s Day is associated with “luck”.

Our lives should never rely on luck, but to God. When something good happens to us, attributing it to mere luck is something that we should not do, but instead we need to attribute it to God. I would daresay as well that instead of saying “good luck”, we need to say “God bless” instead.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change” (James 1:17).

3. The Patrick people know today is VERY MUCH different from the Patrick of the past.

Do you know that Patrick is really a Scottish and NOT an Irish?

Do you know that Patrick is not a catholic monk, but instead part of the Celtic Church?

Do you know that Patrick did not follow Catholic traditions and doctrines such as baptism by sprinkling, communion, statue worship, confession, infallibility and veneration of the pope, and many others? Instead, Patrick observes the biblical Saturday Sabbath, Passover, and even rejected the trinity doctrine!

Learn about the true and real historical background of Patrick and you will be surprised about how his life is twisted to fit people’s preference.

“… and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

4. St. Patrick’s Day is not mentioned in the Bible.

Of course, there are certain holidays not commanded in the Bible that are perfectly fine for us to celebrate such as Thanksgiving Day. However, St. Patrick’s Day is considered as a “Christian” holiday. It is definitely not a good idea to attribute something to God which God Himself doesn’t approve.

“But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the TRUE worshipers will worship the Father in SPIRIT AND TRUTH, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:23-24).

5. St. Patrick’s Day doesn’t glorify God.

Taking part to St. Patrick’s Day is not only unbiblical, but it obscure the true way of worshiping God. We cannot celebrate a religious tradition and at the same time, serve God. It is considered as a spiritual adultery. God expects us to serve Him 100% and wholeheartedly.

“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

THEREFORE GO OUT FROM THEIR MIDST, AND BE SEPARATE FROM THEM, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty” (II Corinthians 6:14-18).

Final words

Some of you reading this might easily dismiss everything what I wrote. You can even say, “WHATEVER” or “You’re overacting”. Whatever you think is not really important. The important thing is what GOD THINKS. If you really want to serve and please God, then you will do whatever He wants you to do no matter how small it is.

Make a commitment now. Instead of worshiping God through useless and vain religious and man-made tradition, celebrate what He commands us to do. Celebrate His Saturday Sabbath along with the annual festivals He mentioned in Leviticus 23. If you do, your life will never be the same again!
