Is God Happy with the Black Nazarene Festival?

Every year, Filipinos celebrate the most popular and crowded festival in Manila, Ang Piesta ng Itim na Nazereno (Feast of the Black Nazarene).

It is the perfect epitome of the Filipino religious act. Every year, millions of devotees will flock together and fight their way towards the Black Nazarene as it is paraded around Manila. As a result, people get hurt, injured, and sometimes, die.

The scene is never ending confusion, chaos, and mess – all in the name of God.

It is worth noting that the Black Nazarene paraded around the city is just a replica and not even the real one.

Before the Translacion – the term used to refer to the transportation of the Black Nazarene from Quirino Grandstand to Quiapo Church – they have what they call “Pahalik” (the traditional kissing of the feet of the black statue).

After the fiesta, countless garbage and trash litter the streets.

In the midst of this religious frenzy, we need to ask the vital question: does God approve this type of worship?

‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, ‘BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME. BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN’ (Matthew 15:9)”

Know your Bible. As a Christian, learn where to stand. Let us stop worshiping stones, but start worshiping the TRUE and LIVING GOD!
