Warning: 10 POPULAR “Christian” Practices/Beliefs that are not Rooted in the Bible!

Do you know that most of the practices, traditions, and beliefs that Christians practice today are not found in the Bible? Shocking but true. Read on to know whether what you believe is in the Bible or not!

“You hypocrites! How right Isaiah was when he prophesied about you! ‘These people, says God, honor me with their words, but their heart is really far away from me. It is no use for them to worship me, because they teach TRADITIONS as though they were my laws!'” (Matthew 15:7-9).

This is really not something that is new. The Bible talks about this. Revelation 12:9 tells us that the WHOLE WORLD is deceived by the Devil. SO if you see a really big religious group, then you can be certain that it is not the TRUE church. As a matter of fact, most of the traditions popularly practiced today cannot be supported by the Bible!

So in this blog post, I want to share a list of popular Christian traditions that are PLAINLY not found in the Bible and are rooted in PAGANISM instead! Read on to find more.

False Christian Tradition #1: Christmas

Do you really think that the exact date of the Jesus’ birth is revealed in the Bible? The PLAIN answer is NO! In fact, the birth of Jesus is very impossible to fall on December.

Take an encyclopedia and look at the Christmas section. You will find that the history of Christmas is rooted in paganism. Thus, real Christians should never observe Christmas as the Bible condemns paganism.

False Christian Tradition #2: Sunday Sabbath

From Genesis to Revelation, you will never read the sanctification of Sunday in replacement of Saturday as the day of Sabbath. Sunday as the rest day is instituted by men through the council of Nicaea. It was not authorized by the Bible.

Throughout the early Christian history, Saturday is continued to be observed as the Sabbath day, many years and even centuries after Jesus’ death. But now, Sunday is popularly observed. Truly, this is a testimony of how widespread Satan’s influence is.

FALSE CHRISTIAN TRADITION #3: HALLOWEEN

Source: operationlettertosanta.com

Have you not ever wondered how a satanic and devilish holiday can be considered as a Christian holiday? And yet, we can see how Christian parents will encourage their children to wear grotesque and scary costumes when Halloween comes. Scary movies become the theme of movies, books, television, and many others.

Once I have seen a photo of nuns in their traditional attire with devilish masks! What an irony. Truly, there must be something wrong with this practice!

False Christian Tradition #4: Valentine’s Day

Who is Valentine anyway? No one really knows and yet many observe this day as the day of the love. What is so harmless about this festival? Well, if you only read history how young women are being sexually partnered with men during this day, then you might want to think twice before buying that valentine card. Of course, what can so wrong about it? IT IS WRONG SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS PAGAN AND GOD DOes NOT LIKE PAGAN PRACTICES. Do not define love according to your standards; because love is defined as the keeping of God’s commandment (I John 5:3).

False Christian Tradition #5: Easter Sunday

What does eggs and bunny has to do with Jesus’ resurrection? OPEN YOUR EYES my friend and honestly answer the question.

The answer is plainly NOTHING!

Bunnies and eggs are fertility symbols devoted to the goddess Ishtar (which by the way where “easter” gets its name).

In addition to this, Jesus said He would be in the grave for THREE days and THREE nights. Now ask your self does being buried on a Friday sunset and being resurrected in Sunday morning sounds like 3 days and 3 nights? Even a grade school pupil will know how to count and answer that is only 2 nights and 1 day! So stop observing festivals that are plainly not biblical.

False Christian Tradition #6: Trinity

This is the most widely taught doctrine in Christianity today and yet, this is even one of the most preposterous and ridiculous doctrine. Why you might ask. First of all, the Holy Spirit is never a persona in the God Family. The God Family today is only composed as of now of God the Father and Jesus Christ.

What are my proofs that Trinity is false and a great hoax? The Holy Spirit is never mentioned in the visions of John, Daniel, Stephen, and Paul. In Paul’s salutations, it is never mentioned the Holy Spirit. In the conception account of Jesus, the Holy Spirit is referred to as the power of the most High and many others.

So what are your proofs of TRINITY? Show me!

False Christian Tradition #7: Heaven as the reward for righteous people

This belief has led to many other false teaching such as praying to the “saints”, praying to Mary, praying for the peace of your departed loved ones, purgatory, and many others. Heaven is not the reward to righteous people, but in fact, the righteous will reign here on earth when Christ will establish His Kingdom (Revelation 5:10).

False Christian Tradition #8: Creating and worshiping statues

Source: prisonerofjoy.blogspot.com
Source: prisonerofjoy.blogspot.com

When the Catholic Church was so busy converting people, they ridicule people who worship the sun, the tree, and carved images. But they did not look into themselves first before pointing out the plank in their brother’s eye. It is very clear in the number 2 commandment that we should not create graven image and worship them since this is abominable to God.

But what did most Christians do? They fill their houses with statues of Jesus, Mary, and all the saints. They even put grills to make sure that no one will steal them. What a pathetic practice. Even the humongous and mega churches today are filled with statues of people.

False Christian Tradition #9: The Commandments are Nailed to the Cross

Have you heard the message, “once saved, always saved”? This is one of those demonic deceptions that most people are led to believe in. They say that we live under grace and commandment keeping is no longer binding. All you have to do is accept Jesus in your heart and you are saved already. But is this accurate? After all, are we really free from any law?

It is true that we are under grace and no amount of commandment keeping can earn us salvation. But God make it a point that we still need to keep His commandments as His sons and daughters. One of the many clear scriptures we can see is in Revelation 12:17.

False Christian Tradition #10: Baptizing while still a Baby

Repent and be Baptize.

Question: How can a baby repent?

Answer: impossible!

So why do people baptize their babies when the Bible tells us that they need to first understand and count the cost before actually dedicating their lives to God? Obviously, another false Christian tradition.

Furthermore, we don’t find in the scripture of baptism being done by sprinkling of water. In fact, Christ was never baptized until He reached 31. He was also baptized in the Jordan River where MUCH water is located. He then came OUT of the water after baptism. So do we see babies sprinkled water on their head being baptized here?

Conclusion:

Jesus said in John 4:23-24 that God is Spirit and those who would like to worship God should worship Him in TRUTH and SPIRIT. Therefore, there are two criteria you need to use to determine whether a worship is acceptable to God or not – your worship should be in TRUTH (criteria #1) and SPIRIT (Criteria #2).

Ask yourself, is the Christmas, easter, Halloween, Sunday Sabbath, baptizing babies, worshiping statues, the trinity doctrine, not observing God’s Commandments, valentine’s day, and others are in TRUTH and SPIRIT?

Read the Bible to know the answer. Do not believe me, believe the BIBLE.

    • Hello Richard!:)

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

#4… Well, even if here was someone whos name is St. Valentine, we cannot take away the fact that it is rooted in Paganism…

#5… do you know that the Bible tells us that Jesus was crucified on Wednesday and was resurrected on Saturday? If you want to know more, just tell me.:)
#10. yep, The bible tells us that we should bless the children, but never baptize them.

      Cheers,
      JOshua

      • I fully agree with you that the Bible never supports a change from Saturday to Sunday, but where does the Bible tell us that Jesus was crucified on Wednesday?

I would respectfully like to point out that there is no evidence in the Bible to support a Wednesday through Saturday scenario. Instead the Bible makes it very clear that Christ was crucified on Friday and rested in the grave on Sabbath and rose again early Sunday morning.
Just look at Matthew 28: 1 which states
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

More evidence of this is given in the book of Mark chapter 15 which covers the crucifixion of Christ were only moments after being told of Christ death we are informed in verse 42 that the day he died was Friday.

And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

So according to the account of Mark, Christ was crucified on the preparation day, the day before the Sabbath. Which means that according to the Bible he was crucified on Friday, not Wednesday. And Matthew tells us that at the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week (which would be Sunday) he rose from the dead. The Bible tells us that the Sabbath had come to an end and Sunday was dawning. Even in death Jesus kept the fourth commandment and waited until early Sunday morning to rise from the grave.

If that is not enough John repeatedly tells us that Christ rose on the first day of the week. And the book of Luke gives no support to the theory of a Wednesday the Saturday scenario either. As we are given evidence that the reason the women did not finish their work of caring for Jesus body is that Sabbath was approaching. Plus, Luke very plainly states that Christ rose early in the morning on the first day of the week, not the seventh day.

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

It seems to me from these text that the Bible does not support the belief in a Wednesday crucifixion and a resurrection upon the Sabbath day.

The issue with number 5 is not that people believe Christ rose on Sunday morning as the Bible clearly supports that belief, but the bigger issue is that Easter Sunday has been tied with the pagan worship of Ishtar and the fertility rituals that occur during that time. So strong is the connection with paganism that as I understand it, years ago one of the popes issued a decree that Easter and the true Passover are not allowed to coincide. And that if they should fall on the same time the date for Easter Sunday would have to be moved. If Easter were truly about celebrating the resurrection of Christ it would seem that the two days should agree, and not be kept separate. Therefore I agree with you on the point that Easter is a pagan holiday, but not that it supports a Wednesday through Sabbath senario.

      • Hi Katherine,

        Thanks for leaving a comment.

This is a huge topic but I want to be brief with my answer and later give you a link.

First point to consider, Christ clearly tells us that He will be in the grave three days and three nights (Matthew 12:40).

Now my question is, how can you fit three days and three nights if Christ was buried around 5pm on Friday and risen Sunday morning? Obviously, you can’t because that is only equivalent to a day and a half.

So who lied? Did Christ lied or men?

Next point, by admitting that Christ died on Friday, you are also admitting that the Sabbath is indeed on Saturday and yet a lot of Sunday-keepers would turn a blind eye and will still consider Sunday as the Sabbath.

Third point, there are two Sabbaths mentioned in the crucifixion and resurrection account. Failure of understanding this led many people to conclude that Christ was buried on Friday.

Let me explain. The source of this explanation is found on here (https://www.ucg.org/the-good-news/jesus-wasnt-crucified-on-friday-or-resurrected-on-sunday-how-long-was-jesus-in-the).

As John tells us in John 19:31: “Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies [of those crucified] should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken [to hasten death], and that they might be taken away.”

In the Jewish culture of that time, the chores of cooking and housecleaning were done on the day before a Sabbath to avoid working on God’s designated day of rest. Thus the day before the Sabbath was commonly called “the preparation day.” Clearly the day on which Christ was crucified and His body placed in the tomb was the day immediately preceding a Sabbath.

        The question is, which Sabbath?

Most people assume John is speaking of the regular weekly Sabbath day, observed from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset. From John’s clear statement here, most people assume Jesus died and was buried on a Friday—thus the traditional belief that Jesus was crucified and died on “Good Friday.”

Most people have no idea that the Bible talks about two kinds of Sabbath days—the normal weekly Sabbath day that falls on the seventh day of the week (not to be confused with Sunday, which is the first day of the week), and seven annual Sabbath days, listed in Leviticus 23 and mentioned in various passages throughout the Bible, that could fall on any day of the week.

Because traditional Christianity long ago abandoned these biblical annual Sabbath days (as well as the weekly Sabbath), for many centuries people have failed to recognize what the Gospels plainly tell us about when Jesus Christ was crucified and resurrected—and why “Good Friday–Easter Sunday” never happened that way.

Most people fail to note that John explicitly tells us that the Sabbath that began at sundown immediately after Jesus was entombed was one of these annual Sabbath days. Notice in John 19:31 his explanation that “that Sabbath was a high day” —” high day” being a term used to differentiate the seven annual Sabbaths from the regular weekly Sabbath days.

So what was this “high day” that immediately followed Jesus Christ’s hurried entombment?

The Gospels tell us that on the evening before Jesus was condemned and crucified, He kept the Passover with His disciples (Matthew 26:19-20; Mark 14:16-17; Luke 22:13-15). This means He was crucified on the Passover day.

Leviticus 23, which lists God’s festivals, tells us that on the day after the Passover a separate festival, the Feast of Unleavened Bread, begins (Leviticus 23:5-6). The first day of this Feast is “a holy convocation” on which “no customary work” is to be done (Leviticus 23:7).

This day is the first of God’s annual Sabbaths. This is the “high day” of which John wrote. Several Bible commentaries, encyclopedias and dictionaries note that John is referring to an annual Sabbath here rather than the regular weekly Sabbath day.

Passover began at sundown and ended the following day at sundown, when this annual Sabbath began. Jesus kept the Passover with His disciples, then was arrested later that night. After daybreak the next day He was questioned before Pontius Pilate, crucified, then hurriedly entombed just before the next sunset when the “high day,” the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread, began.

Leviticus 23 tells us the order and timing of these days, and the Gospels confirm the order of events as they unfolded.

Please read this article to learn the proof that Christ was crucified on a Wednesday – https://www.ucg.org/the-good-news/jesus-wasnt-crucified-on-friday-or-resurrected-on-sunday-how-long-was-jesus-in-the

May God lead us to all truths.

      • Jesus was in the grave from Friday-Sunday. He said said He would be in the grave 3 days and that is 3 days not full 72 hours but still 3 days none the less. Friday afternoon, all day Saturday(Sabbath), and Sunday morning. 3 days.

      • Hi Mary,

Please understand that Yahshua said, 3 DAYS AND 3 NIGHTS. It’s not just 3 days. Yahshua Himself said that there are 12 hours in the daylight (John 11:9) and it follows that there are 12 hours in nighttime. I hope we set aside our biases and see what Christ really said.

John 14:15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. • Hello, Appliedfaithorg!

Thanks for your comment. We Read that the scripture cannot be broken (John 10:35). There are a lot of clear indications and evidence that go against the trinity doctrine. Paul denied the trinity (http://becomingchristians.com/2015/12/03/how-paul-surprisingly-denied-the-trinity-doctrine/) and there are 5 ways to debunk it (http://becomingchristians.com/2014/03/21/the-great-trinity-hoax-5-easy-ways-to-debunk-the-trinity-doctrine-shocking/).

If there is something that would “prove” the trinity, it can be easily refuted.

In John 14:15, the Holy Spirit should have not referred as “He”, but “It”. The Greek language uses gender-inflected pronouns and since the trinity doctrine has already crept into Christianity when the KJV were written, the translators are biased in using the pronoun he instead of it.

As you can see, other verses use “IT” rather than he. Verses such as these:

Romans 8:16: The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:

Romans 8:26: Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Another example is Matthew 10:20, where Jesus says: “For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which [not who ] speaketh in you.” Another is 1 Peter 1:11, which refers to “the Spirit of Christ which [again, not who ] was in them.” The King James Version translators did use the proper neuter pronouns in these verses.

This can be a very long topic. Please read this article:

      • I checked NIV, NLT, NASB, ESV, HCSB, TLB and the KJV… everyone has it as a “Him”at some point in John 14 (17, 26). If someone is believing you over that many independent scholars, woe be unto them. You are bearing false witness. You appear to be either deluded, or a false profit… and I very rarely use that strong of language. The ESV team was led by one of the authors and lecturers I studied in Greek classes in seminary, and I trust him far more than you.

      • Did you also checked Romans 8:16 and Romans 8:26? The scripture cannot be broken. Why are you ignoring this plain passage that use “it” to refer to the Holy Spirit?

Let me give you a longer explanation why there is a variation. I would like to quote one of our publications.

Greek, like the Romance languages deriving from Latin (Spanish, French, Italian, etc.), assigns a specific gender for every noun. Every object, animate or inanimate, is designated as either masculine, feminine or neuter. The gender is often unrelated to whether the item is indeed masculine or feminine.

For example, in French the word livre, meaning “book,” is of the masculine gender and is referred to by a pronoun equivalent to the English “he” or “him.” And in Spanish, mesa, or “table,” is in the feminine. Clearly, although these nouns have gender, their gender does not refer to actually being male or female. In the English language, in contrast, most nouns that do not refer to objects that are male or female are referred to in the neuter sense, with the pronoun “it.”

We might note that in the Hebrew language, in which the Old Testament was written, the word translated “spirit,” ruach, is referred to with feminine pronouns. But the Holy Spirit clearly is not female or a woman.

In Greek, both masculine and neuter words are used to refer to the Holy Spirit. The Greek word translated “Counselor,” “Helper,” “Comforter” and “Advocate” in John chapters 14 to 16 is parakletos , a masculine word in Greek and thus referred to in these chapters by Greek pronouns equivalent to the English “he,” “him,” “his,” “himself,” “who” and “whom.”

Because of the masculine gender of parakletos, these pronouns are grammatically correct in Greek. But to translate these into English as “he,” “him,” etc., is grammatically incorrect.

For example, you would never translate a particular French sentence into English as “I’m looking for my book so I can read him.” While this grammatical construction makes sense in the French language, it is wrong in English. In the same way, to suppose on this basis that the Holy Spirit is a person to be referred to as “he” or “him” is incorrect.

Only if the parakletos or helper were known to be a person could the use of a gender-inflected pronoun justifiably be used in English. And the term parakletos certainly can refer to a person—as it refers to Jesus Christ in 1 John 2:1. Yet the Holy Spirit is nowhere designated with personhood. So personal pronouns should not be substituted for it.

Furthermore, there is absolutely no theological or biblical justification for referring to the term “Holy Spirit” with masculine pronouns, even in Greek. The Greek word pneuma, translated “spirit” (but also translated “wind” and “breath” in the New Testament) is a grammatically neuter word. So, in the Greek language, pronouns equivalent to the English “it,” “its,” “itself,” “which” or “that” are properly used in referring to this word translated into English as “spirit.”

Yet when the King James or Authorized Version was produced (early in the 1600s), the doctrine of the Trinity had already been accepted for more than 1,000 years. So naturally the translators of that version, influenced by that belief, usually chose personal rather than neutral pronouns when referring to the Holy Spirit in English (see, for example, John 16:13-14; Romans 8:26).

However, this wasn’t always the case. Notice that in some passages in the King James Version the translators did use the proper neuter pronouns. For example, Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit itself [not himself ] beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.” Similarly, Romans 8:26 says “the Spirit itself [again, not himself ] maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” In these cases the translators correctly used neuter pronouns because the Greek word pneuma, translated “Spirit,” is neuter in gender.

Regrettably, later English translators of the Bible have gone further than the King James translators in referring to the Holy Spirit with masculine rather than neuter pronouns. Thus the Holy Spirit is almost always referred to as “he” or “him” in the more modern versions. This reflects not linguistic accuracy, but the doctrinal bias or incorrect assumptions of Bible translators who wrongly believe the Holy Spirit is a person.

        ——————-
You are free to trust anyone whom you want to trust. As for me, I only trust God and His word.

      • For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. http://esv.to/Rom8.14

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. http://esv.to/Rom8.26

These testify to the person of the Spirit. Paul affirms the Trinity.

My question for you is, how do you blaspheme that which is not deity? And if you do, what does Jesus say is the penalty?

28 “Truly, I say to you, all sins will be forgiven the children of man, and whatever blasphemies they utter,
29 but whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin”-
30 for they were saying, “He has an unclean spirit.” http://esv.to/Mark3.28-30

      • I see. So the ESV also does render it Himself. At least the NKJV got the translation correct. I hope you read my lengthy, but detailed explanation about the inaccurate translation of referring to the HS as him instead of it. I could see that you didn’t took the time to comment about it. I would assume that you agree with the explanation.

About your question. Blasphemy is “an act of effrontery in which the honour of God is insulted by man” (New Bible Dictionary).

The Holy Spirit is considered the power of God (Luke 1:35). We need to remember that Jesus is conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. If it is a persona, then why don’t we see any record of Jesus calling the HS as His father? But instead we consistently see Jesus talking to God and referring to Him as a Father.

Now, since the HS is the power of God, blaspheming the HS is like insulting and blaspheming God. That’s how simple it is to explain. Blaspheming the HS is denying the authority and power of God. If you deny the power of God, then you are denying the same power that is able to save you. That is why Jesus is saying that it is unforgivable for anyone to blaspheme the HS.

Mark explains that Christ was responding to an accusation from His detractors, who said, “He has an unclean spirit” (Mark 3:30). They meant that His authority came from Satan, not from God. Although these accusers knew that Christ was the Son of God, they accused Him of being a fraud. Christ warned them that they were in danger of committing a sin for which there was no forgiveness.

If one continues to blaspheme and do not repent, then he is in danger of dying in the lake of fire (Matthew 10:28; Revelation 20:14-15).

I hope this explains your question.

      • Old Testament Trinity Proof Texts…..

You are COMEPLETELY …misleading people about the TRINITY

        Genesis 1:26
“Let US make man in OUR image”: Three plural pronouns, (We, Us, Our) used 6 different times in four different passages: Gen 1:26; 3:22; 11:7; Isa 6:8. The unanimous opinion of the apostolic Fathers was that the Father was talking to Jesus.

        Genesis 19:24
“Then Yahweh [on earth in human form] rained on Sodom and Gomorrah brimstone and fire from Yahweh [in spirit form in heaven] out of heaven. Genesis 19:24. In this text Abraham is visited by three individuals, one being Yahweh and the other two angels. Here we have God on the earth (Jesus) and God in heaven (father) sending down fire from heaven. This incident when Abraham met with Yahweh God, is what Jesus referred to when he said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” (John 8:56) The unanimous opinion of the apostolic Fathers was that Jesus visited Abraham in Genesis 18 and 19.

        Isaiah 6

Isaiah saw the glory of Yahweh, but John says that Isaiah really saw the glory of Christ. This proves Jesus is Yahweh. Combine this with the fact the Yahweh said, “Who will go for US” is a plural pronoun indicating more than one person in the Godhead.

For this cause therefore the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because He not only was breaking the Sabbath, but also was calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

        John 8:58

“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.” The Jews therefore said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.” Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself, and went out of the temple.

        John 10:33

“I and the Father are one.” The Jews took up stones again to stone Him. … Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?”

        John 12:41 + Isaiah 6

A simple reading of the context of John 12 makes it clear that John is saying that Isaiah saw the glory of Jesus Christ himself in Isaiah 6. This proves Jesus is Yahweh.

        John 19:7
The Jews answered him, “We have a law, and by that law He ought to die because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”

        Romans 14:11
For it is written, “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall give praise to God.”

        2 Corinthians 13:14

        Philippians 2:1-2
The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

        Philippians 2:9-11
“Therefore also God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

        Revelation 22:3
“And there shall no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His bond-servants shall [latreuo] serve Him.”

Jesus worshipped in the highest sense of “latreuo”

      • Hello Charles,

Thanks for taking the time to comment. I’m not sure how the scriptures you quoted support the trinity doctrine. In fact, these scriptures point out to the overwhelming and plain conclusion that there are only TWO God being in the God family. Nowhere can we see any scripture telling us that there are three gods, which by the way is of pagan concept.

  6. 1 John 5:7 King James Version (KJV)
For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

    THE TRINITY

Because the word trinity is never found in the Bible some wonder about whether this is a biblical doctrine or not, but the absence of a term used to describe a doctrine does not necessarily mean the term is not biblical. The issue is, does the term accurately reflect what the Scripture teaches? In reality, due to the incomprehensible nature of the truth this term reflects, some believe it is a poor word to describe exactly what the Bible teaches us about this truth concerning God.

    1. The Trinity is the Mystery of Mysteries
The doctrine of the Trinity is the greatest mystery in the Bible. It is revealed, but not fully revealed. Nor will it ever be fully comprehended by Man even in Heaven. It is vastly deep and high, and inspires holy awe in those who approach it rightly. It has been accepted by evangelical Protestants, historical Roman Catholics, and the Greek Orthodox. But it has been rejected by many cults, some liberals, and even some Pentecostals, such as the United Pentecostal Church, not to mention Jews and Moslems.

    2. The Trinity is Taught in the Bible.
There is no perfect analogy to the Trinity in Creation, so the doctrine is taught by Special Revelation and not by mere Natural Revelation. Yet no one place in Scripture discusses it at length. It is learned by comparing text with text. Still, some places are of particular importance in setting forth the Trinity, such as the Baptism of Jesus (Matt. 3) and Christ’s command to baptize “in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit” (Matt.28:19). All three members of the Trinity are sometimes mentioned together, such as 2 Cor. 13:14, Eph. 2:18, 3:14-16, I Peter 1:2, 2 Thess. 2:13-14, 1 Cor. 6:11, Gal.4:6, etc.

    3. There is Only One God.
The first truth of the doctrine of the Trinity is that there is only one God. Perhaps the most important truth of the Old Testament was the “Shema” (Hebrew for “Hear”) of Deut. 6:4, “Hear, 0 Israel. The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” This truth is repeated over and over in both testaments. There has always been only one God and will always be only one God. The doctrine of the Trinity does not teach that there are three gods. The unity of God disproves polytheism (that there are many gods, such as in Hinduism) and henotheism (one favorite god among many others).

    4. All Members of the Trinity are Equal.
The Bible also teaches that there is something plural within God. We call them “persons”. They share the same one divine nature, the same substance of deity. Thus, all are equal, for one infinite being cannot be larger than another infinite being. There is no hierarchy or subordinate natures within the Trinity. Each one is fully God and has all the attributes of full deity. Each one is God and with God (John 1:1-2). The Son is equal with the Father (John 5:18, Phil. 2:6). Theologians speak of the Trinity in two ways. The “Ontological Trinity” is what God is in-and-of Himself from all eternity. The “Economical Trinity” is the Trinity in relation to time, history and Man. The latter reflects and reveals the first.

    5. The Members of the Trinity are Not Identical.
The three divine members share the same nature, but have distinct persons. They are not three in the same sense that they are one, so there is no contradiction here. The Father is not the Son; the Son is not the Spirit; the Spirit is not the Father. There is only one Father, one Son, and one Spirit (Eph. 4:4-6). It was the Son, not the Father nor the Spirit, who became a man. It was the Spirit, not the Son nor the Father, who came at Pentecost. The atonement was presented to the Father, not to the Son or the Spirit. Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17, not to Himself. The Father spoke to Jesus at His Baptism; this was no ventriloquism. Jesus called the Spirit “another comforter”, therefore not Himself. Some groups reject the idea of the Trinity but accept the deity of Christ, saying there is no difference between the three at all. This is Oneness, Modalism, “Jesus only”, or Patripassionism. But it is not Biblical Trinitarianism.

    6. The Father is God.
Matt. 28:19 specifies that the three members of the Trinity are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Scripture repeatedly speaks of God as the Father. This one is not just Father of Christians, but the Father of the Son. And He is eternally the Father of the Son, not just in the Virgin Birth. He was Father to the Son from all eternity. It was decided in the eternal Trinity that the Father would represent God in His dealings with Man, and so the name “God” by itself sometimes refers to the Father. “God” sent His Son into the world, meaning the Father sent His Son (John 3:18). The Father received the atonement from the Son, who represented Man!

    7. The Son is God.
The Second Person of the Trinity is the Son, God the Son. Later we will discuss the deity of Christ more fully. Over 100 Bible verses prove the deity of Jesus Christ (e.g., John 1:1, 20:28). He is the great “I AM” (John 8:24, 58). He was worshipped as God. Many Old Testament verses that speak of Jehovah are applied to Jesus in the New Testament. Jesus is God, but is not the only person in the Godhead, as taught by the advocates of the “Jesus Only” heresy. There are three divine persons, but only one is Son.

    8. The Son is Eternally Begotten by the Father.
The distinctive feature of the Second Person of the Trinity is that He alone is eternally begotten. He is God the Son within the Trinity. This eternal begetting is indicated in John 1:14, 18, 3:16-18. In theology, it is called Eternal Generation. It is eternal; there was never a time that He was not the Son. Some Evangelicals deny this. They say that the term “God the Son” is synonymous with “Son of God”, and that both refer to the incarnation. But Jesus was Son before the Incarnation. In fact, the Incarnation is the historical (or Economical) display of the eternal (or Ontological) nature of the Trinity. Just as a human father has the same nature as his son (e.g., John and Joe Smith are both Smith), so do the eternal Father and eternal Son share the same nature. The Father alone begets the Son. There is no divine mother, no, not even the Spirit.

    9. The Holy Spirit is God.
The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity. He is “the eternal Spirit” (Heb. 9:14). There is only one Holy Spirit (Eph. 4:4). He is personal, for He speaks, feels, thinks, is grieved, has joy, etc. He convicts of sin, regenerates sinners into saints, indwells believers, etc. But first of all, the Holy Spirit is God. To lie to the Spirit is to lie to God (Acts 5:3-4), and to blapheme the Spirit is unforgivable. The Spirit is God (Isa. 48:16, 63:10, Psa. 51:11, I Cor. 3:16, 6:11, 19, 12:4, 2 Cor. 3:17-18, etc.). He is every much eternally God as are the Father and the Son. All three are equal in power, glory and majesty.

    10. The Spirit Eternally Proceeds from the Father and the Son.
The distinctive feature of the Holy Spirit within the Trinity is what is called “Eternal Procession.” It is found in John 14:16, 26, 15:26, 16:13-15. It is not the same as the eternal generation of the Son, which comes from the Father, not the Father and the Spirit. The Spirit eternally proceeds from both the Father and the Son. The Greek Orthodox Church says the Spirit proceeds only from the Father. It is difficult to ascertain just what this procession is. It is akin to eternal breathing, thus an eternal spiration. This was reflected in the Spirit coming in a special way on the Day of Pentecost. He reveals the Father and the Son, and stays in the background. Sent by Christ, He is the “Spirit of Christ” (Rom. 8:9, Phil. 1:19). He brings the elect to Christ, who brings them to the Father. All in all, the members of the Trinity work together for their mutual glory, which is a display of their perfect unity and diversity.

    • Hi Daniel,

      Thanks for your comment.

      1. God is not a mysterious God that we can’t know. In fact, our eternal life is dependent on knowing God! IF you suggest that we can’t understand His nature and just leave it that way then you are mistaken.

      John 17:3
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

      2. No, the Bible doesn’t teach Trinity. Matthew 28:19 has added words to it. While most Christians heavily rely on this verse as another strong pillar to support the Trinity doctrine, unknown to them is the hidden and sad fact that, Matthew 28:19 has also been secretly tampered long time ago. Read more about this here: http://www.biblicaltruths.com/12-reasons-why-the-holy-spirit-is-not-a-person-part-3/

The rest of the verse you mentioned does not prove anything about the Trinity.

      3. There is ONE God in a sense that they are one in thought. If you look into the Hebrew word of one, it does not refer to the numerical one but instead it is saying that God is one in mission and goal. He is UNITED. The term “one” here is used in the same way as a husband and wife become “one.” John 1:1 tells us that there are two Gods, God the Father and the Word, which we later know as Yahshua or Jesus Christ.

      4. No, God and Jesus isn’t equal. We read: You heard that I said to you, ‘I go away, and I will come to you.’ If you loved me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I (John 14:28).

      5. Of course they are not identical. Aren’t you contradicting yourself? Trinity teaches us that the Gods are equal and yet, you are saying they are not? Obviously, you can’t use the Bible to prove Trinity. Look up the history of Trinity and you will learn of its pagan roots.

6, 7, 8 Yes, God the Father or Yahweh is God and Jesus is the Son.

      9. This is a huge topic and though I can answer all your verses, I’d rather beseech you to read this free booklet: https://www.ucg.org/bible-study-tools/booklets/is-god-a-trinity

      10. Again, please read the booklet I mentioned in no. 9.

To avoid confusion, the truth is that the Holy Spirit is the POWER of God and Jesus Christ. Unless you understand this, you will not know the role of the Holy Spirit. It is not a person but the power of the God Family.

I really hope you read the booklet I mentioned.

      Regards,
      Joshua

  7. I was taking your post seriously until you got to No.6. How any Christian cannot believe in the Holy Spirit and actually declare unbelief in the Trinity is beyond me. Please don’t respond with any arguements. I have a bible too and I read it. I was impressed with all your blog posts about Santa, but after your denial of the Trinity, you’ve totally lost your credibility. I was going to follow you, but there’s no point now. I wish you all the best anyhow.

    • Hi there!

It’s disheartening to hear that you dismiss all the good messages you read here just simply because you don’t agree with me with the issue of Trinity.

Please note that the Bible tells us to prove all things and we must be like the Bereans who search the scripture.

I know you have already made up your mind. Let me make this very clear. I don’t deny the Holy Spirit. I believe in it but not in the same way most Christians do. I’m glad that you have your bible and you’re reading it. I pray that you read the bible and come to the truth that the trinity doctrine is unbiblical. You can’t prove it in the Bible. Christ denied the trinity. Paul denied the trinity. Nowhere in the Bible you’ll find the teaching of trinity.

But if you prefer to believe in a lie, I’m sorry about that. That’s your choice and let God be our judge.

If you prefer to learn more, send me a message to joshuainfantado@gmail.com and I would gladly discuss this topic with you further.

      Regards,
      Joshua

  8. Thanks for your reply Joshua. Let’s just agree to disagree, because neither of us is going to budge. Life is too short to be arguing over doctrine. You believe you have interpreted the bible correctly and so do I. There are a great many other doctrines that Christians disagree on. Let’s not make the Devil’s job easier by squabbling about it. I’m not accusing you of squabbling – just talking about people in general. I cannot remember your Santa references but I’m assuming we are in agreement on that one, so I can guess what you said without looking back. I do know that many Christians think we are silly to make such a fuss of refusing to entertain it. And they will stand their ground on the matter until Jesus returns. I only hope that you and me will get the ‘Well done good and faithful servant’ whatever we are convinced about down here. I wish you a blessed new year.

    • I definitely agree to disagree. Actually, we have a lot of things to agree with. Let’s just focus on that. God works with each of us differently. Praying for His will to be done in our lives. 🙂

  9. Dear Joshua Infantado,
I am deeply touched and inspired (In Spirit) by your leadership. I know leadership is a lonely walk at times because it requires turning from what is customary. Jesus did the same and so many tried to prosecute him for walking a leading path contrary or, different to the societal norm. Just seeing so many people coming for you and being mad that you have disrupted their sleep walk just shows how Christ like you really are!
Just saying thank you for being a truth bearer.
    Esther

    • Thanks Esther for your encouraging words. I know it’s difficult at times to be walking down the path less taken. However, I know we are not alone. God is always there, walking beside us. 🙂

  10. Honestly, we are all born into sin. If we think of mental capacity of a child, no they do not have knowledge of the evils in the the earth…but due to Adam and Eve’s disobedience, we are considered a product of their transgressions against God. Sin is within our nature, if it wasn’t death would not happen.

  11. Let us take heed how we approach the pure, infallible Word of God! Remember, God is a Creator. He does as He pleases. The Word made flesh, the Holy Spirit, and the Father are ALL manifestations of ONE God unified with ONE purpose in ONE accord. We are to honor our Creator in submission of obedience. The servants of the Lord will not argue, but honor. If repentance is needed, be humble enough to have the godly sorrow that gives it. Rebels will have no place in the Kingdom of God.

  12. For some reason, no one wants to talk about abortion, and life beginning at conception as not actually in the Bible. Like the Holy Trinity, it is a deeply held belief by most Christian because of the influence of the Catholic Church, but it’s not technically in the Bible.
I don’t know why this comment is not being allowed to be posted in the comments section. I hope it’s a technical issue and not hypocrisy from the site runner.

      • No, I’m saying that the belief that “life starts at conception” and the subsequent conclusion that “abortion is a sin” are not rooted in the Bible. Which is the point of this article ” 10 POPULAR “Christian” Practices/Beliefs that are not Rooted in the Bible”

Just like the other beliefs listed, many of them are deeply held religious beliefs of Christians, but aren’t rooted in the Bible.

As background, the root of the concept of abortion being a sin comes from the teachings of the Catholic church later adopted by American Protestant Churches (far fewer adopted the belief in Protestant European Churches) .

The Catholics accept this concept because the Catholics have non-canonical teachings as part of their theology. The concept of abortion as a sin comes from the Didache. The Didache is not part of the Bible, and most Protestant Churches and Orthodox Churches have not adopted the Didache as a part of their Church cannon. Particularly because its authenticity is unverifiable.

The Pope and the Catholic church pushed the concept to the 1/3 of Christians that they oversee and the teaching spread to most other Christians.

Also the Christian Church believed that life began once a child was born into the world, because modern medicine didn’t have ultrasounds or even stethoscopes prior to the 1800s. Plus priot to the 1700s, 20-25% of pregnancies ended in miscarriage or still births. So for about 1,600+ years the Christian Church viewed life as beginning when a child was born. Can you imagine how mentally distressing it would be for a woman to think her baby died for every fourth pregnancy. Instead, viewing it as simply a part of the biology of the body was a much easier thing to contend with since it happened so frequently.

The Christian church also believed the Earth revolved around the Sun and we were the center of the universe. Beliefs change, they don’t always have to be written in the Bible to be a belief.

And even if you are an unwavering believer that life begins at conception, you can still truthfully recognize that the belief is not written in the Bible but simply something you heart/faith tells you.
(The opposite can be true as well, and you can still be a Christian — but not a Catholic).
