Prayer is one of the highest privilege man is given with. It is through prayer that we are able to talk to our Father, the Almighty God, Supreme Ruler of the vast universe. Imagine what tremendous and exponentially wonderful privilege it is to communicate with God anytime we want. We do not have to arrange or request an appointment to get in touch with God.
Undeniably, prayer is very powerful. But do you know that there are many things that we should pray about? The Bible is very specific about what we should pray for.
In this blog, I look into the scriptures and search for the things that the Bible specifically tells us what to pray for. I only looked at the New Testament to make a shorter list. My list may be incomplete or you have something in mind. So please feel free to leave a comment after this blog.
#1: Pray for your Enemies (Matthew 5:44-45).
“But I say to you, love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you, so that you will become children of your Father in heaven, because he makes his sun rise on both evil and good people, and he lets rain fall on the righteous and the unrighteous.”
#2: Pray for the ministry, pastor, and more people to preach the Gospel (Matthew 9:36-38).
“But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.”
#3: Pray for safety during the great tribulation (Matthew 24:19-20).
“And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days! But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day…“
#4: Pray that you don’t fall into temptation (Matthew 26:41).
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
#5: Pray that you become worthy to escape the great tribulation (Luke 21:35-36).
“For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”
#6: Pray to be worthy of your high calling (II Thessalonians 1:11-12).
“Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power: That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
#7: Pray for the sick (James 5:13-16).
“Is any among you afflicted? Let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
Here are some of the things that you need to pray for. This is not a comprehensive list and should not be taken exclusively. There are other things that you need to pray for and this list can be good start for you.
I hope this list will not just become a mere list, but you should include it in your prayers.
Remember that prayer should be part of our innermost being and we must exert a conscious effort to make it a point that we pray regularly. Take time to pray and you will feel a transformation in your life today!
