Day of Atonement Commandment

The mention of Day of Atonement is found in Leviticus 23:27.

“Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.”

In Acts 27:9, we can also see that the Day of Atonement is continually being kept.

“Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the FAST was now already past, Paul admonished them…”

What the Day of Atonement signifies?

Like all the festivals of God, the Day of Atonement pictures part of God’s master plan of salvation to all mankind. It is the time when God will finally bound Satan and be cast to the bottomless pit.

We have learned that on the Feast of Trumpets, Jesus Christ will finally step into the affairs of men to establish His Kingdom here on earth. The main objective of Jesus is to let all mankind to experience His way of life and deliver lasting peace. But all these may be impossible or difficult to attain while Satan is still permitted to roam around.

The Day of Atonement is the day when God will finally cancel all the influences of Satan on mankind and release the world from his grasp and clutches.

Satan as the God of this World

Remember, in II Corinthians 4:4, Satan is referred to as the god of this World! Even during the confrontation between Jesus and Satan in Matthew 4, Satan offered give the whole world to Jesus if only He will bow down and worship him. Therefore, we can see why this world is a mess and chaotic. Furthermore, in Revelation 12:9, it is said that Satan deceives the WHOLE WORLD! Not only a few, not only a hundred, million, but the WHOLE WORLD! The Bible is plain and clear.

In Revelation 20:1-3, we can see how will Satan be bound and not be permitted to influence people.

v. 1. And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.

v.2. And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.

v.3. And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations NO MORE, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Through these verses, we can see that Satan will finally be dethroned from being the god of this world and be cast into the bottomless pit so that he cannot deceive nations anymore. Nevertheless, this is not the last we hear from Satan, because after the thousand years, Satan will again be released to test the people and see if they are really loyal to God and Jesus.
