Tomorrow, September 5, marks one of the most significant feasts of God – the Feast of Trumpets. This day is part of God’s plan of salvation for all mankind and it gives us hope of the coming day when Jesus will finally come back here on earth to establish His majestic Kingdom. For us Christians, it is a high time to reflect on what this day truly means and how should it affect our way of living this life.

What is the significance of the Feast of Trumpets?

The Feast of Trumpets is one of the seven annual holy days listed in the Leviticus 23. It marks the start of fall festivals as it will be followed by the Day of Atonement, Feast of Tabernacle, and the Last Great Day.

The Feast of Trumpets annually reminds us that Jesus will once again be back here on earth to bring His Kingdom and harvest His first fruits – Christians who have passed the test during this lifetime. On that great day, after the great tribulation that almost blast mankind out of existence, Jesus will finally step into the affairs of mankind and intervene to human affair. This world will then be in subjection under the royal law of God and we will at last witness peace and lasting abundance.

Lessons we should learn from the Feast of Trumpets

There is no doubt that there are many lessons that we can derive from tomorrow’s feast. But I believe that the most important lesson that we should be reminded is to instill in us a SENSE OF URGENCY.

II Peter 3:3 mentioned this during our lifetime… “knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

Sounds familiar right? Does not this talk about the mentality and apathy of people around us today? Sad to say, most “Christian” churches would predict the second coming of Jesus Christ and when they fail, many people are disheartened and increase the number of people falling away from the faith. Thus we see the rise in number of atheists, agnostics, nominal Christians, or even those people who simply do not care anymore.

People will become too callous with their conscience and forget that time will come that they have to stand before the judgment seat of God.

Developing a sense of urgency

The Feast of Trumpets reminds us that Jesus Christ will come. We may not know when that day will be, we can be sure that it is very near! Look at the headlines today. You see most end-time prophecies are shaping right before our eyes.

When asked by His apostles “what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age”, Jesus answered that the signs would include religious deception, wars, rumors of wars, famine, pestilences, earthquakes, and Christian persecutions (Matthew 24). All this will culminate to the day of the great tribulation – “such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be” (Matthew 24:21). Great is that tribulation that if not cut short by Jesus, no man shall be saved alive.

Do we need to wait for Jesus’ second coming to change?

Friends, we do not need to wait for Jesus to come here on earth to change our ways. THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS IS CLOSER THAN WHAT WE EXPECTED. While it is very important that we look at the sign of the age, we must first look at inside of us and see if we are worthy of the upright calling that God has given us.

Each passing day brings us closer to that great day of the Trumpets. Each morning that we wake up brings us closer to the Jesus second coming! Did you grasp that??

We can be sure that Jesus will not be coming here on earth tomorrow since there are still many prophecies that need to be fulfilled. But does this give us an excuse to procrastinate? Certainly NOT! We are not sure of the exact time and date that Jesus will be coming and His coming is like a thief of the night and will catch most humanity surprised.

Let us not procrastinate to answer the calling God is giving us. Why? Because not anyone of us has the assurance that we will still be here alive tomorrow, next week, next month, or even next year. Thus, if you think about it, we are really close to Jesus’ second coming in a personal level. Once you die, the next time you will have your consciousness will be when God resurrects you to the second life!

Never EVER commit the mistake that you can procrastinate and delay your change as a better Christian! Time will come when it will be too late for each of us to change and only a fiery indignation awaits us on our resurrection.

Celebrating the Feast with hope

Tomorrow, I hope all of us will enjoy the special day God has prepared for us and most importantly, derive the right lessons and cultivate them in our hearts and mind. The message of the Feast of Trumpets is no doubt a message of HOPE, just like the other festivals of God, for this dying and decaying world.

God loves us and He will one day save us from ourselves. May God speed that day! In closing, let us be reminded of what Paul said to the Church in Rome:

11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to WAKE UP FROM YOUR SLUMBER, because our salvation is NEARER now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. 13 Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. 14 Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh (Romans 13:11-14).
