Which Day is the Sabbath Day?

Many people assume that the Sabbath day is on Sunday. While a minority of people believe that it is on Saturday. Others simply dismiss the dilemma and conclude that it does not matter anymore. However, is it really important to know which day to keep holy? After all, God did command us that we should keep the Sabbath day holy.

In this article, let us examine and see which day the Sabbath of our Lord really is. It might surprise you, but the assumption of many professing Christian is definitely unbiblical and inaccurate. MAJORITY is not always right.

What does the Bible say?

Let us revisit the Exodus account when the Ten Commandments were given.

8Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10But the SEVENTH DAY is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-10).

First we must establish the authority that we must obey. Obviously, if we want to know the truth, we must go back to the Bible, which is the ultimate source of truth and wisdom.

So after reading Exodus 20, it is PLAIN and OBVIOUS that the Sabbath day is the seventh day.

But which day is the seventh day?

Look at this calendar; which is the first and last day?

Look at this calendar; which is the first and last day?

Let us read a dictionary to see which day is the seventh day.

“Saturday – seventh day of the week: the day of the week after Friday and before Sunday” (Encarta Dictionary).

“Sunday – first day of the week: the day of the week after Saturday and before Monday” (Encarta Dictionary).

It is clear that Saturday is the seventh day, while Sunday is the first day of the week.

If you are going to look at the calendar, it is plain that Sunday is found at the left side of the calendar making it the first day. On the other hand, you will see Saturday at the left-most side which makes it the seventh day of the week. Nothing can be more obvious than that!

With this in mind, you should ask the vital question in your belief and religion: Who are you going to believe, your Bible or human tradition?

The Bible reveals that the real and true Sabbath day is Saturday. In addition to this, Sabbath day starts from Friday sunset to Saturday sunset because this is the way God recons time. A day should start at even and not at midnight.

27And he said unto them, the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: 28Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28).

The scripture plainly said that the Sabbath was made for the Sabbath. Our Creator, in His infinite wisdom and omnipotent majesty, knows our frame. He knows that we need to rest at least once a week and have the time to recharge and refocus our mind to Him.

Mark 2:28 further said that Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Sabbath, which is kept on Saturday. If Jesus is the Lord of the Saturday Sabbath, who is the lord of Sunday? Could it be Satan?? I will leave that question for you to be answered.

The Sabbath is still applicable today and it will be kept continually when Jesus Christ finally return here on Earth. The Sabbath has magnificent meaning and benefits both in physical and spiritual aspect. Keep the Sabbath in the right day, and start reaping its blessing in your life today!

  2. It is written GOD is the same yesterday, today and forever.
In the ten commandments it is written, ” Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. But
the SEVENTH DAY is the sabbath of the LORD thy God” Note there’s no mention of a calendar or specific work days of the week, only numbers of days. Because all days are same! Remember in this age people work for 5 weekdays remaining 2 days. Some choose to count their days from Monday, some from Sunday. Provided Almighty God is honoured all is well because he never changes. All mentioned in the commandment is working days not, specific work days on the man-made calendar!
ROMANS 14: 5- 9 Who are you to judge
someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for the Lord is able to make them stand. 5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the
Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God. 7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. 8 If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.
