Scripture for the day: Obeying God rather than Men

“Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, ‘We ought to obey God rather than men.’“(Acts 5:29).

The apostles, after receiving the Holy Spirit, are transformed men who made a commitment to preach the Gospel at all cost. As they do our Father’s business, they are threatened by the authorities of their day. The apostles are sent to prison but miraculously released by God.

Instead of running away from the authorities and find a safe place for themselves, they went back to the synagogue preaching the Gospel of the coming Kingdom of God.

We can be like the apostles and develop in us the conviction they too have. We can go on our way and obey God rather than men.

Who do you obey? Is it God? Or is it the people around you? When it comes to two choices that will lead to sin and the other to righteousness, which do you choose? Will the words of the apostles echo to your mind and lead you to life or will you succumb in sin and please other people rather than God?

One day, all of us should develop an unshakable FAITH in God that He will never forsake us as long as we put Him first in our lives. We may lose our home, our family, friends, career, education… but we must never lose FAITH in our loving Father who promised us eternal life – a gift far GREATER than anything else in this temporary world!
