Scripture for the Day: Our Savior’s Golden Rule

“Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matt. 7:12).

Most people might think that the golden rule was given by Confucius, a Chinese philosopher, but His version of the golden rule is of negative form. Confucius said: “Do not do unto others what you do not want them to do unto you”. It is passive. It is very easy not to do harm to our fellow. We can even go to the mountain and avoid human contact as a form of its ultimate application.

But in Matthew 7, we can see the statement of Jesus, our Lord and Master. He says do also to them. It is an ACTIVE and purposeful action. We must CONSTANTLY find ways to do well to our fellow men whenever it is in our power to do so.

Jesus has different approach.

He wants us to have the conscious effort to love our neighbor as ourselves – to act out of genuine concern and selflessness.

Imagine a world filled with people who do this golden principle given our Christ… this world will be a BETTER PLACE to live in!
